This is a new and rare breed in Canada, particularly in Quebec !

History and ancestors

Originally from Belgium, Schipperke has a long history dating back to the 17th century. His name means “little captain” in Flemish, because he was frequently the companion of sailors and boatmen. Just like its larger cousin, the Belgian Shepherd "Groenendael", the Schipperke descends from the ancient shepherd dog breed "Leauvenaar". The Schipperkes breed has been carefully selected over generations to produce effective guard dogs and excellent vermin hunters.

Physiology

The Schipperke is a small, sturdy dog measuring between 25 and 33 cm (10 to 13 inches), with a weight ranging from 4 to 7 kg (9 to 16 lbs). Its compact and muscular silhouette gives it great agility and speed, ideal for sporting activities. Its magnificent black coat is dense and smooth, and forms a beautiful mane around the neck. His keen intelligence makes him easy to train and he excels in disciplines such as agility and obedience. This dog is also renowned for its problem-solving skills and strong protective instincts.
Specific Needs: The Schipperke is an energetic dog that requires plenty of exercise to stay happy and healthy. Unlike some calmer breeds, he needs daily mental and physical stimulation, including walks, interactive games, and training activities. Very attached to his family, he needs a lot of human interaction to avoid boredom and separation anxiety. In addition, its dense coat requires regular brushing to avoid tangles and maintain its shine.

The Schipperke is therefore an extremely loyal companion who loves to please his masters. Always attentive, he strives to meet the expectations of those close to him and actively participate in family life. His devotion and love for his family make him an exceptional pet who will bring joy and happiness to your home. Choosing a Schipperke means adopting a faithful and devoted friend who will bring joy, dynamism and security to your home. Come meet this charming companion and let yourself be seduced by his charm and exceptional character.
